Thank you, ladies

Atalanta, the Greek goddess of running, and Mother Nature must have read yesterday’s post and decided to smile on Kate and me this afternoon: It was a picturesque fall day in Independence, and the family schedule opened up perfectly for our two-hour long run.

The sun was shining vividly, and many of the trees were still in full color because of the dry summer and fall meteorologists say have prolonged and enhanced our autumn. Kate and I seized the hole in our schedule, laced up our shoes and hit the pavement for the 11-mile LSD run.

We followed a course nearly identical to the one I posted yesterday. Check it out at We must have shaved a blocked or two off the route somewhere, because we had to zig-zag up an alley near our house to get in the full 11 miles.

The four hills I mentioned in yesterday’s post were tough, but we conquered them without stopping to walk. I think they’ll prove beneficial during next weekend’s Gobbler Grind Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k (

My new Saucony Kinvara 2s were great on today's long run.

Today’s long run gave me a chance to break in my new Saucony Kinvara 2s. I recently retired a pair of Saucony Ride 2s and used several coupons to get the Kinvara 2s for a bargain basement price at Gary Gribble’s Running Sports in Independence (

I’m looking forward to this week’s runs and to next weekend’s Gobbler Grind. I hope your fall running is going well and that you’re accomplishing your personal fitness goals.

Happy running!
